Perspectives of Young Artists from the Adriatic–Ionian Region
The exhibition “Living Without Leaving? The Perspective of Young Artists from the Adriatic-Ionian Region” focuses on the shared challenges faced by young people in the region, particularly the question of whether to stay in their home countries or leave for new opportunities in Europe or elsewhere. Through this perspective, the exhibition highlights the unique experiences of those who cross borders, whether by staying in Europe while preserving their Adriatic-Ionian identity, or by returning to their home countries after living abroad. Moreover, the dynamic of leaving and returning, again and again, is especially common among young artists today, forming the central motif of this exhibition.
The winning artworks have already travelled to Crete (Greece), Shkoder (Albania), Black Lake (Montenegro), and Brussels (Belgium), and now continue their journey to Skopje for the Cinedays Festival of European Film.
These fifteen selected works explore a universal question: is home a place, a memory, or something we create wherever we go? Through painting, photography, and mixed media, the young artists convey both the pain of leaving and the resilience embedded in staying.
As the exhibition travels, it sparks new dialogues at every location, connecting audiences across borders through shared experiences of migration and belonging.
The exhibition will be open for the duration of the festival, from 3rd to 10th December, in Gallery 2 at the Youth Cultural Centre (MKC).
The exhibition has been made possible with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to North Macedonia, Europe House Skopje, and the Ministry of European Affairs.
